My journey so far has been working with young people for 20 years in various settings and for half that time within substance misuse. Numerous reports have shown that drugs education is not always taking place within schools or if it does, is sometimes done in a poorly manner and I personally know this to be true due to the nature of my work in schools so I decided to set up my business in delivering education on drugs, safer online and gangs education to young people across London. Young people should have access to good, quality drugs education in order that they can make better informed decisions especially concerning around substance misuse.
HowzThat1 is a project which educates young people around the effects and dangers of substance misuse. I deliver workshops, assemblies as well as deliver professional training on substance misuse, hidden harm, CSE, problem gambling and look at the safeguarding aspects around the harms of these topics.
Since I have started this business, I have delivered both my workshops and professional training in numerous schools (primary and secondary) across London. Due to Covid, most my sessions with age appropriate content is now being delivered online which means I can deliver my services all over the UK. I have been fortunate enough that I have worked with a lot of students from disadvantaged backgrounds and I have arranged several trips to companies such as Facebook, Radio 1xtra, Google and Linkedin as part of my programme which helps to raise young people’s aspirations.
